Dr. Pieter de Smidt, PT, DPT

Dr. de Smidt has over 30 years of experience as a Physical Therapist. He has achieved certifications in Mckenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, Manual Therapy and Sports Therapy. With his Post-Professional Doctorate in PT he specialized in management of musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, back, shoulder, hip and knee.

Dr. de Smidt’s evidenced-based, integrated approach of manual therapy with corrective exercises is best described by his mantra “Gain It, Maintain It and Load it.”

Physical therapy

  • Patient is in pain and needs a hands-on treatment in combination with exercise.
  • Patient had a recent accident or injury, or has pain/issues when they work out.
  • Hands on treatment includes:
    • Graston/IASTM: Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue mobilization
    • Spine Manipulation and Joint Mobilizations
    • Cupping
    • Dry Needling
  • Corrective Exercises:
    • Mobility and stretching exercises
    • Stabilization and motor control exercises
    • Strength & Conditioning

Medical Fitness

  • Participant is not in pain, but has had an injury or surgery and wants or needs someone with a medical understanding of their condition to assist them to get back to being active again and back to working out.
  • Someone who has never worked out before because of medical reasons, but wants to get fit. Because of the medical condition, they feel more comfortable to work out with a physical Therapist before they progress to personal training.
  • Participant may have a lot of stiffness and wants some stretching and hands-on treatment to improve mobility and their workouts.

We offer hands-on, evidence-based Physical Therapy. Unlike most other clinics, we treat our patients one-on-one, and you will only be seen by a Physical Therapist and not by an unlicensed PT tech or PT aide.

Manual Therapy is an important part of our treatment, and we feel that it is essential to integrate manual treatment with exercises to get the best long-term outcomes. Research has shown that the combination of Manual Therapy and exercise is most successful for pain.
